You would put on all wigs the same way, no matter the construction.
All your hair should be brushed off the face, including the sides and back. Usually a tight fitting stocking cap is put on to enclose all your hair to get it out of the way. The wig is then put on with the front of the wig on the front hairline, held in place with one hand, and then with another hand (or two) holding the back of the wig, pulled down to cover your whole head. (This is harder to explain than it is to do!!)
With a lace front wig, you would do the same, making sure it is placed in the correct position on your hairline, and then the rest of the wig is pulled into place. The wig, of course, has to be the right size to fit YOUR head. Not all wigs are the same, you know.
Some of the lace front wigs are glued in place along the front hairline with theatre adhesive. Check your instructions for correct use. They use this for added sideburns, or moustaches as well.
To remove the wig, you would take it off in reverse, starting at the back, and slip it off towards the front. If you have glued it down in front, carefully loosen the glue so as not to tear the wig when removing it.

A family member has had some significant hair loss and is interested in front-lace wigs. Can anyone tell me how long they last, what they typically cost, about the procedure, and the leading places salons in the midwest where you can get them done (i.e. Chicago area)? Any help is much appreciated.
I don’t know about salons that work with them in Chicago, but there are plenty of sites that give out info on lace wigs. The costs of lace wigs vary. I’ve bought some from Ebay as low as $85-$175. Most I’ve seen are in the $500-$1500 or more range. With good care the wigs can last a year or more. I was kinda rough with my wigs so mine would last an average of 4-5 months.
To wear them you can start off using a wig cap. It will look more realistic if you used a wig cap or a knee high pantyhose that is around the same color as your skin to wear under the wig.
You can use glue or tape to keep the wig on. Sometimes I would use a combination of medical adhesives like Hollister Medical Adhesive and Blue Liner lace wig tape. The different glues that could be used Liqui-Tape Adhesive, Mity Tite, Endura Bond, and Ultra Hold (many women bad complaints about this one) to name a few.
If you ever order any lace wigs online just beware of scam sites. There’s a good site http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/forum_topics.asp?FID=79 that has tons of info on lace wigs, vendors, tips & tricks. The women there know their stuff.

I want to buy stock in bulk like a lot of the beauty stores online are have done. Specifically for the African American community. I just don’t know where to start or where to find a good supplier with reasonable prices.
In addition does anyone know a supplier who can offer a service providing custom made lace front wigs which I could supply my customers to. Any advice most welcome.
I’m interested in purchasing one but don’t know much about these wigs. I found this link though. Good Luck!
